The concept of The Data Store was first conceived by founder
Larry Goldman back in 1998. Mr. Goldman, President and founder
of Micro Tech Systems in 1993 saw a need to protect his customer's
data.
Micro Tech Systems, located in Northbrook, Illinois is a
professional service organization that prides itself on the top
shelf quality service and support of computers, printers and
networks. As Micro Tech Systems matured, the products
and services offered continued to grow. Goldman quickly noticed a
real need to provide an automated and secure remote backup service.
Despite his efforts to educate his corporate and home clients on
proper backup techniques, computers continued to crash. Some
had hard drive failures, others suffered from viral attacks, some
that had backups found their backups were either no good or were out
dated versions of their data. Too many times a client would come to
Micro Tech Systems and literally be holding their chest, begging for
reassurance that MTS technicians would be able to recover their
valuable data.
The evolution of technology continues to change at a rapid pace,
and some people now believe computers have become throw-a-way items,
but the truth of the matter is, while the computer hardware may be
minimal to replace, the value of the data contained on those
computers just continues to grow. Recovering that data
frequently exceeds the cost of the computer, plus, while MTS techs
do their best (and frequently succeed) data recovery is not always
possible.
Goldman is a firm believer that 3 layers of data redundancy is
the best way to protect his client's precious data. Backing up
to external hard drives, flash drives, etc. can be the first 2
levels, but the ultimate and final layer needed to be something that
would be automated. A process that did NOT require human
involvement, because human's are just that ! Everyone is
human, and humans get busy, distracted and while the intent to
backup daily is all well and good, it just didn't happen.
After years of research, design, beta testing and more beta
testing, finally the right recipe was born. Next a huge
financial commitment was mandated to bring this vision to reality.
While the financial investment was considerable, the most important
components Goldman mandated were that the solution be 100%
automated, eliminating the need for the customer to have to even
think about the backup, and that the solution had to be secure.
After all, it's nobody's business what your business is.
Finally, a data center was designed and built to host our clients
data, but it doesn't stop there. Remember that data redundancy
Goldman was focused on ? It's that exact policy that went into
the design of The Data Stores data center. TDS' data host
servers are configured with the latest state of the art technology
in drive redundancy. Not only are there multiple layers of data
redundancy, but TDS also built in redundant power, redundant power
backup, redundant internet connections and that still was not enough
for Goldman. Because Murphy's law applies to everyone and
everywhere, an additional investment was made to properly secure the
client's precious data, so mirrored servers were put in place
off-site which maintain additional secure, encrypted copies of the
data.
The very first client of The Data Store was Goldman's first
company, Micro Tech Systems. Much like the popular TV
commercial where the guy says not only is he a client, but he's the
founder as well. Goldman said, if we expect our clients to
trust the services of The Data Store, then why shouldn't we ?
So MTS became the first customer of TDS and the rest is history.
Today, countless customers enjoy the automated, secure, remote
backup solution for their priceless data. And remember those
multiple layers of redundancy ? Where most computer users and
network administrators fail is to have an
off-site copy of their data.
Too many (almost all) people that do actually perform a backup
simply leave their backup copy right next to the computer or server.
If the building burns, the water floods, the thief steals, whatever
the dilemma, the backup generally goes with the computer, thus the
final reason to consider The Data Store as your final layer of data
redundancy. Enjoy the peace of mind of knowing your data is
backed up each and every day with absolutely on effort on your part.
